4K RESTORATION OF THE E.M. FORSTER CLASSIC!

The second in a trio of Merchant-Ivory adaptations of E.M. Forster novels, unpublished until after his death in 1971. Maurice Hall (James Wilby) embarks on a journey of self-discovery when he falls in love with Clive Durham (Hugh Grant) while studying at Cambridge. Maurice is an outsider compared to the charming, self-assured object of his affections. Wilby gives the character a quiet intensity. The strong supporting cast includes Denholm Elliot, Rupert Graves, Simon Callow, and Ben Kingsley.
Described by The Guardian as ‘undervalued and underseen’ and a pre-cursor to the James Ivory-scripted Call Me By Your Name, Maurice is a landmark film as important as any in the history of gay cinema and one that presents a positive and enriching portrait of first love.
–British Film Institute

“The team of producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory has created another classy film of a classic novel with their stunning adaptation of E.M. Forster’s Maurice.”
–Boston Globe

“As might be expected, the costumes, settings and cinematography are once again ravishing.”
–The New York Times
“SUPERB. A sensual and intoxicating romance.” –The Washington Post
