Julius Onah · USA · 2019 · 110 mins · 14A CC

The title character is an Eritrean former child soldier, adopted by white parents (Naomi Watts and Tim Roth) and raised in Arlington. In the 10 years since he left Africa, Luce (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) has thrived to an almost astonishing degree: He’s captain of the high school track team, a brilliant student, and class valedictorian. Conflict is introduced when Luce’s history teacher, (Octavia Spencer) receives an assignment back from him arguing that violent insurrection is sometimes justified in the name of social and political progress. This sets up a series of clashes between Harriet, Luce, Luce’s parents and the principal, each of whom approaches the problem with a different degree of suspicion, rationalization and/or thinly veiled hostility—The Washington Post

“A truth-seeking exploration of race and gender in America.” --The Globe and Mail

“Luce doesn’t have the answers but it’ll force many of us to be asking more of the right questions.” –The Guardian

“It’s some kind of miracle to find a film as seriously ambitious, scrappy and suspenseful as Luce.” –Rolling Stone
